We are happy to announce that Dr. Elzette Steyn's Medical Aesthetics and Vein Clinic is now offering a variety of Cosmetic Laser Treatments, as made possible through the acquisition of a state-of-the-art Cutera CoolGlide YAG Medical Aesthetics Laser.
"The CoolGlide long-pulse Nd:YAG Platform was designed to meet the strict criteria practitioners insist upon when considering an aesthetic laser purchase."

Through the use of this latest technology, Dr. Steyn is able to offer services in Permanent Hair Reduction, Vascular Solutions, and Laser Genesis.
When that technology is combined with the skilled hands of a physician who is trained in the art of laser treatments for Medical Aesthetics, the results can be spectacular. |
In 2011 Dr. Steyn attended one of Ontario's premiere training centres for Medical Aesthetics. There she completed a comprehensive course in all areas of that specialized field of medicine, including the use of cosmetic lasers.
The curriculum, as accredited by The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, included practical hands on training in:
- Laser hair removal and permanent hair reduction
- The treatment of skin hyper-pigmentation due to sun damage
- The treatment of fine facial veins and other vascular issues
- Skin rejuvenation
The CoolGlide YAG medical aesthetics laser uses the Cutera 1064 nanometer, large format beam; meaning it can cover larger areas in a single pass.
That saves clients time and money. |
The versatile CoolGlide platform supports three technologies.
- CoolGlide for hair removal on all skin types and tanned skin
- Excel for vascular therapy
- Laser Genesis - for gentle skin rejuvenation
This versatility enables Dr. Steyn to meet and exceed the needs of virtually any patient. |

Some of the features and benefits of the CoolGlide include:
- The CoolGlide will treat all skin types (I-VI) including tanned skin.
- The CoolGlide features the patented PowerFlex™ technology, which provides fast treatments and high efficiency.
That level of efficiency permits flexibility and independent control over fluence (the radiant exposure of energy over area), the duration of the pulse, and the rate of repetition. As a result, the Physician or Laser Treatment Specialist is able to tailor treatment on a per patient basis, and record the best results for future treatments.
The copper cooling provides the most efficient method of heat disbursement for optimal skin protection and comfort, and the large spot size (10 mm) helps ensure maximum speed and optimal penetration at all follicle depths.
Cutera is the pioneer in developing the "all skin type" hair removal system, and they are the unquestioned experts in laser safety, versatility, efficacy, and speed. |
That is why physicians from around the world who include hair removal as part of their Medical Aesthetics practice rank Cutera at the top of their lists of valuable equipment.
Hair removal is still the #1 requested aesthetic procedure,
so buying the best equipment just makes sense.

Excel Laser For Vascular Laser Treatments
Vascular conditions occur mostly in people with skin types I, 2, and 3. Skin types are ranked on the Fitzpatrick Scale; as developed in 1975 by Dr. Thomas B. Fitzpatrick, a Harvard dermatologist. The scale assigns a numerical classification to the color of skin, which is then used to access sensitivity to ultraviolet light.
Type I
(scores 0-7): |
White; very fair; freckles; typical albino skin. Always burns, never tans. |
Type II
(scores 8-16): |
White; fair. Usually burns, but can tan with difficulty. |
Type III
(scores 17-25): |
Beige; very common. Sometimes mild burn, gradually tans to a light brown. |
Type IV
(scores 25-30): |
Beige with a brown tint; typical Mediterranean Caucasian skin. Rarely burns, tans with ease to a moderate brown. |
Type V
(scores over 30): |
Dark brown. Very rarely burns, tans very easily. |
| Type VI Black: |
Never burns, tans very easily, deeply pigmented. |

Vascular disorders are a common problem to be dealt with by physicians; especially those working in Medical Aesthetics. The regions of the body that are most affected include the face, neck, chest and legs; including the feet and ankles.
Physicians have at their disposal a variety of treatment options, ranging from pharmaceuticals to laser and light treatments, or a combination of both. The treatment path is decided based on a variety of factors, including the extent of the vascular condition, the effectiveness of past treatments, the patients personal preferences, and cost. |

When using lasers, specifically, the physician must be trained and experienced to understand the combination of parameters that will result in the best effect.
They must gage if the pulse duration as adjusted to vessel size is adequately delivering the energy needed to destroy the target, while at the same time ensuring that there is ample cooling to prevent injury to the skin.
This is no job for amateurs!

The Excel Laser is the first clinically effective long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser for both facial and lower extremity vascular lesions.
The Excel safely and effectively treats discrete vessels,
high pressure vessels and deep veins.

Laser Genesis
Laser Genesis is a staple of skin care for every doctor's practice. It is a multi-purpose, all season, all skin type solution for overall skin health. Cutera's 1064 nm wavelength, combined with our patented microsecond technology, protects the epidermis, targets microvasculature, and stimulates collagen production.
Laser Genesis reduces wrinkles by gently heating the dermis, and it corrects excess redness and rosacea by diffusion. The system also smooths the texture of skin, and shrinks the size of pores.
Most importantly for the patient, there is no downtime following treatments, and only minimal discomfort.

The autumn, winter, and early spring are the best times to enjoy the benefits of the CoolGlide YAG medical aesthetics laser, as many aesthetics laser services are best performed during the cooler months, when the sun is much less likely to interfere with the results.
That period is also particularly good for laser hair removal; especially if you are planning a trip to warmer climates during the winter. If started in the autumn, the process can be completed throughout the winter months, leaving your bikini, legs, arms, and face free of unwanted hair by summer. It is also a great time for men to address unwanted hair growth on their chest and back.
